Survey Markers
In spring 2007 LADWP began installing survey markers on both public and private lands on and around their preferred Green Path North route. Some of these markers were installed after unauthorized helicopter landings on public lands - a violation of the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA). In true LADWP fashion, when asked by the County of San Bernardino to explain these markers, LADWP denied any knowledge.
In a summer 2008 meeting in Yucca Valley, General Manager David Nahai stated that the survey markers were installed to help LADWP avoid intrusion on designated Wilderness areas. What? The truth is these markers were installed to help LADWP determine the best locations for staging areas, bulldozer and boring machine storage, service roads, helicopter landing sites, and other areas on our near the proposed route needed for power line installation support.
After we exposed these markers and the lies they told in response, LADWP quickly removed them. To this day they still claim no route has been decided on, despite the fact that this is the only route they have surveyed. This is also the only route LADWP has submitted a Right of Way application for. To view that application, click here.
