Power Lines, Earthquakes, and Fires
After the recent very destructive and costly Southern California fires of October 2007, investigators have concluded that many of these fires were caused by downed power lines damaged by high winds. This fire danger can be completely avoided by using the modern technology of underground energy transmission lines. Because this technology costs more than the antiquated system of towers and overhead exposed cables, LADWP would rather jeopardize your home, your property, and your life, than cut into their already massive revenue intake.
Furthermore, we know that earthquakes can bring down power lines, as witnessed in the November 15, 2007 earthquake in Chile [read the Associated Press article further below]. That earthquake was rated a 7.7, very equivalent to our area's Landers / Big Bear earthquake of 1992.
